Derek Reed is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Behavioral Science at the University of Kansas where he directs the Applied Behavioral Economics Laboratory. Dr. Reed’s research investigates the role of reinforcer pathologies (i.e., excessive demand for a commodity interacting with impulsive choice) of health and addictive behaviors. Toward this end, he specializes in the development of behavioral economic measures of nicotine, alcohol, and cannabis use, with the aim of using these concepts and measures to inform treatment and public policy. He has served as Associate Editor for the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, Behavior Analysis in Practice, and The Psychological Record. Dr. Reed has published over 100 peer reviewed papers, coauthored three edited books, and was the 2016 recipient of the American Psychological Association Division 25 B. F. Skinner Foundation New Applied Researcher Award. He is the Coordinator of the ABAI Science Board and serves on the Board of Directors for the Society for the Quantitative Analyses of Behavior, of which he was previously Executive Director.
