The Life Span Institute (LSI) Communications group reports research findings, public events and LSI activities, including training and service, to the media. The group also assists reporters and producers to identify and contact LSI scientific experts and acts as a liaison between media representatives and scientists developing media coverage. Communications develops and manages the LSI web site and other center and externally-funded project web sites on a fee-for-service basis. Community Conversations, a series of public seminars featuring LSI scientists, is also managed by the group as are special events such as tours of the Institute for legislators and visitors. Communications also produces an electronic newsletter, the Lifeline Online, an annual report, as well as other print and web presentations. The staff is also a liaison to KU's Office of University Communications and the communications group of the Office of Research and Graduate Studies.

Besides these general responsibilities, the Communications group has expanded its purview to assisting investigators in other fee-for service Communications services including:

Graphic design (including graphical presentation of scientific data) for center and project print, web, product and presentations.
Video/audio projects - including closed captioning
Scientific posters and presentations
Event planning
Photography
Copyediting book and report manuscripts
