Former LSI doc student heads DEC

Karen Salisbury Henry

A former graduate student at the Beach Center on Disability has been named executive director of the Division for Early Childhood at the Council for Exceptional Children.

Peggy Kemp heads the division that promotes policies and advances evidence-based practices to support families and enhance the development of young children at risk for developmental delays and disabilities. Kemp most recently served as statewide technical assistance provider for the Kansas early intervention programs through the Kansas Inservice Training System. She completed a doctorate in special education in 2015 and worked with Ann and Rud Turnbull, co-directors of the Beach Center.

Two LSI-affiliated scientists also serve in leadership positions with the DEC as members of its executive board: Eva Horn, professor of special education, vice president; and David Lindeman, senior scientist and director of LSI at Parsons, member-at-large.
